If you want to sign in to your Hotmail account, but prevent someone else from finding out when you sign in to Hotmail, there are several options, manual or automatic. We will show you two easy ways to erase your Hotmail history and cookies from your computer after you have checked your emails. Note that in the case of manually erasing your Hotmail history, the actual procedure depends on the web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera...) and operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux...) you are using when you login to Hotmail and Windows Live services.
Hide your tracks when you login to Hotmail
Here are, simple first, two ways to hide your history and erase traces of Hotmail visits:
- Automatically clear your Hotmail history:
The easiest method, by far, of erasing your Hotmail history is simply not to have any! Most modern browsers include a feature called "private browsing", or something similar, which makes the web browser automatically erase your browsing history (including your Hotmail activity) as soon as you close the browser window.
Unlike the manual deletion of your browsing history, erasing your Hotmail history by browsing incognito leaves absolutely no room for errors (when you manually delete cookies and visited sites, you may forget some). Learn how you can anonymously login to your Hotmail account.
- Manually delete your Hotmail history and cookies:
The second way you can erase your Hotmail history and delete relevant cookies is by doing manually: even if you are a "power user", and have the advanced knowledge required to clear the cache in the file system, modify or delete cookies, and clear web addresses from the browser's address bar, this approach is both tedious and not bullet-proof.
Tip: Depending on the reasons you have for wanting to erase your Hotmail history or hide the fact that you login to your Windows Live Hotmail account, you may find some useful information in our "Sign in to Hotmail as a different user" page, which shows you a few ways to keep your Hotmail profile separate from other people sharing the same computer, even without the need to logout of Windows / Mac.
